A former Plum High School Mustang and NFL player will be heading the high school football team next season.

Matt Morgan, a 1999 Plum High School graduate, was hired for the position at last month's voting school board meeting. Morgan, a former football player for the University of Pittsburgh and the NFL's St. Louis Rams and Buffalo Bills, also has served as assistant coach at Gateway High School.

He was inducted into the East Boro’s Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 1999 and into the Plum High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

Morgan is replacing former coach Frank Sacco, who led the team since 2009. The Mustangs won one game during the last two football seasons. They lost every game in the 2012-13 season.

On Feb. 27, the school district hosted a "Meet the Coach" event for students and Morgan to connect. The football season begins in August.
