The change has been discussed at education committee meetings for several months now. Parents who have attended the meetings have been in favor of the change.

Previously, the scale was as follows: 92 percent to 100 percent for an A; 83 percent to 91 percent for a B; 74 percent to 82 percent for a C; 65 percent to 73 percent for a D; and 64 percent and below for an F.

"I honestly believe grades are subjective at times," said board member Sal Colella. "I honestly believe that teachers will give a certain amount of As and a certain amount of Bs anyway."

Colella said he wants to reexamine the lower end of the scale and specifically pointed to a student who gets one bad test grade, really blowing their overall grade.

"I want to take this back to the education committee and continue to look at it," he said.

There was no opposition to the grade change on Tuesday.
