Plum High School Transformer Could be Up And Running in Anywhere from 2 to 18 Weeks

It hasn't been determined if the transformer can be fixed yet.

Plum School Officials hope to have answers on Tuesday about a broken transformer at Plum High School .

At the June 21 school board facilities committee meeting, school board member Jeff Matthews said if the transformer is repairable, it would take about two weeks to fix. If it needs to be replaced, it could take anywhere from 16 to 18 weeks.

A storm earlier this month disabled one of the five transformers in the school. The 13,000-pound transformer has been transported to a company in Sharon, Pa., where it will be determined what the next step will be.

Because of the disabled transformer, the phone and Internet server was down. A generator has been running 24 hours a day to keep it up and running.

Matthews said officials realize the disturbance to neighbors caused by the generator, and he hopes to have a resolution as soon as possible. He said the maintenance staff would look into finding a way to muffle the sound for the time being.

School board member Andy Drake asked that the sound barrier be wind resistance to avoid any problems with the generator.

Officials expect to have an update at the June 28 regular meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. at . Meetings normally are held at the high school, but because of the problem with the transformer, it has been moved.
