Plum School Board Notebook: February Voting Meeting

New school name, personnel and more discussed.

Here's a roundup of items discussed at the Feb. 28 Plum School Board meeting:

Pivik's Name

The new will be officially named George Pivik Elementary School.

The board accepted name suggestions from members of the community for a few weeks in January and February.

Pool Maintenance

The board approved a two-year agreement with Renick Brothers for Preventative Maintenance of the Pool Pak unit at a cost of $2,614  for the first year and $2,785 for the second year. The cost is $251 more than previous years, but was the lowest bid.

Retirement/Resignation

The board approved the following retirements and resignations:

The retirement of Judith Anderson, sixth grade teacher at Pivik Elementary School, is effective the last teacher workday of the 2011-12 school
year.

Bus driver Sharon Carr and personal care Paraprofessional Pamela Kennedy resigned Feb. 10.

April Conklin, staff nurse at and , resigned Feb. 27.

Hiring

Jeanne Walker was hired as a staff nurse at Adlai Stevenson Elementary and Oblock Junior High, effective March 1. She will be paid $15.25 per hour.

Henry Wakefield was hired as a bus driver, effective Feb. 29. He will be paid $14.80 per hour.

The board approved Chief Master Sgt. Terry Speer for a professional contract.

Leaves

The following leaves were approved:

An unpaid intermittent leave for Tanya Oslowski, security guard at Plum High School, effective March 2, for a time period not to exceed 12 weeks.

An unpaid intermittent leave for Adriana Frollo, special education paraprofessional at Plum High School, retroactive to Jan. 31, for a time period not to exceed 12 weeks.

An unpaid intermittent leave for Katie Snyder, kindergarten teacher at Adlai Stevenson Elementary School, retroactive to Feb. 16, through the
end of the 2011-12 school year.

Calendar

The 2012-13 school year calendar was approved. It is attached in the media section of this article.

HVAC

The board is soliciting bids for the replacement of the Oblock Junior High HVAC microprocessor.

New Bus Stop

A new bus stop will be established at Old Farm Drive and Meadow View Court for Adlai Stevenson students.

Athletics

Here's a round up of some athletic items.

Tim Clark, junior high head softball coach, resigned, effective March 5.

Several coaches were hired. They are:

  • Charles Froehlich, junior high head softball coach, at a stipend of $1,700.
  • Frank Sacco, weight room coach, at a stipend of $1,061.
  • Jason Cooper, weight room coach, at a stipend of $1,061.
  • Kevin Stark, weight room coach, at a stipend of $1,061.
  • Ed Tissue, weight room coach, at a stipend of $1,061.
  • Jaime Cybak, senior high assistant track coach No. 4, at a stipend of $2,886.

Volunteer coaches also were approved. They are:
