Graduation 2012: Congratulations, Plum Seniors

Despite a late evening rain shower, Plum Senior High School hosted its annual commencement ceremony outdoors on the athletic field Thursday evening, where 318 students earned their high school diploma.

Senior High School Principal Ryan Kociela welcomed the crowd and kicked off the ceremony that celebrated the class of 2012.

Valedictorian Stacy Liu asked her classmates to make sure they took the time to give thanks as the culmination of 13 years of school came to an end.

“Take a second to thank everyone that helped you get you to where you are today. Remember every person who has touched your life in some way,” Liu said.

“Never take the opportunities you are given for granted. Forget the small problems of the past, cut the ties that restrain you and don’t stop here because there are many places you have to go… Everyone deserves to be here and make our mark on the world. Let’s make history."

Salutatorian Alison Kuhn reminded her fellow classmates that everyone has the ability to succeed and to be inspired by others.

“We need to remember to gain inspiration from others, especially those who have dealt with tragedies… Some of our classmates have had to deal with many tragedies that helped to motivate me to never give up and stay positive when life throws you challenges,” Kuhn said.

Mikaela Dunegan, student council president, and Gregory Varga, senior class president, also offered their words of wisdom to their classmates and the hundreds of parents, grandparents, friends and family members in attendance at Thursday’s ceremony.

The Board of School Directors presented the graduating seniors with their diplomas.
