Riverview Notebook: Ecology Field Trip, Volunteers & More

Here is a roundup of items discussed at the Riverview School Board meeting earlier this week.

Here's a look at what Riverview officials discussed at the Sept. 17 school board meeting:

Ecology Trip

Fifth grade students will be attending an ecology outdoor experience at the Lutherlyn Environmental Center in Prospect on Oct. 11 and 12. Officials agreed to pay $6,533 for the program.

Board member Maureen McClure questioned whether or not it would be a problem, given that Lutherlyn is a faith-based organization. However, officials agreed that the program attended by Riverview students exclusively is a nature-based program.

"I went as a chaperone last year, and you wouldn't have known it was a faith-based organization," said board member Heidi Dolan.

Library Aide

Laurie Sliben of Oakmont was hired as the library aide at Tenth Street Elementary. She will have a 60-working day probationary period and is replacing Patricia Lesnick, who was transferred to a computer lab aide position.

Leave Extension

The board approved a leave extension for high school teacher Casey Rocchini through Nov. 26.

Volunteers

Carlo Rometo will serve as a volunteer with 7/8 grade football team. Steve Myers will volunteer with the junior high boys soccer team.

Yearbook

Herff Jones Yearbook will be the yearbook vendor for the 2012-13 high school and junior high school books.

Jacesko Fund

The James Jacesko Scholarship Fund was closed at the request of his family. The remaining money in the fund will be applied to the english department's budget. Jacesko was an English teacher in the district.
