Riverview Officials Hire New Teachers, Staff Gets Ready for the New School Year

Teachers are back in school, school board hires new teachers in preparation for students' first day on Wednesday.

Upon the entrance are packets with materials and student handbooks for teachers.

Monday was the first day for teachers, who are getting ready for students' arrival on Wednesday.

Superintendent Chuck Erdeljac said he's excited for this school year.

"We had a great first day with our teachers," he said. "They're getting the books out and cleaning the desks in preparation for students' arrival and another successful school year."

High school Principal Jay Moser said teachers began distributing laptops to ninth-graders yesterday and will continue to do so today.

The school board also made final teacher hires before the beginning of the school year. Among the new hires are:

  • Erin Kovacs as a temporary professional employee secondary French teacher. She is replacing Sharon Rukavina, who retired.
  • Mary Ann Mangini as a music and choral teacher at Verner Elementary. She is replacing Chris Fox, who resigned.
  • Ellie Lin Ratliff as a temporary professional employee secondary mathematics teacher. She is replacing Paul Romito, who resigned.
  • Sasha Killian and Ashley Duncan have been named as long-term substitutes at Verner Elementary. They will be at the school through January 2012.

Magini was present at the school board meeting on Monday. She said she is looking forward to her career at Riverview.

"Everyone seems to have a high sense of morale," Mangini said. "I am so pumped for this year, and I'm excited to start working with the kids."
