Riverview Officials to Discuss Locker Room, Cooler Projects

Bids have been received for both projects, but the school board most likely will wait until February to decide if they will grant approval.

According to district architech Dick Jaynes, who works for Axis Architecture, the team locker room would be located in between the girls and boys physical education locker rooms—space from the existing locker rooms would need to be used—and would be accessible from both.

The low bid for that project came in at about $312,000. Officials originally had planned to build a new locker room as part of the Riverside Park renovation project, but the scope of the work was estimated to cost $450,000.

Plans to add a room for sport officials would cost an extra $54,000.

Board member John Hackworth said that might be too expensive.

Superintendent Chuck Erdeljac agreed, calling it "a little steep," though he did say he could see why it would be needed.

The new walk-in cooler would cost about $89,800.

Erdeljac said the district was approached by a former student athlete who expressed an interest in making an annonymous donation toward the athletic department. That could go toward the project if it comes through, he said.

Both projects are expected to be discussed at the Feb. 6 Student Life board meeting at 7 p.m. at the central administration office.

If the board approves the projects, work will begin over the summer.
