Riverview School Board Notebook: June Voting Meeting

A round up of items discussed at Riverview School Board's June 27 voting meeting.

Here's a list of some of the things discussed by the Riverview School Board on June 27.

One-Time Bonus

The school board is in the process of developing a new four-year contract for administrators.

In the existing contract, which expires June 30, there is a performance-based rating bonus. The board approved a one-time bonus award for administrators for 2011 to be taken from the 2010-11 budget.

School board member John Hackworth said the new contract will be significantly different than the existing contract.

"We are anticipating a wage freeze for the first year," he said.

New Desks

The school board agreed to buy 315 student sled base combo desks and five teacher desks for Riverview High School at a cost of $36,147.

The desks that are being replaced are as old as 40 years old, said high school Principal Jay Moser. Though students haven't gotten hurt, there have been instances where desks break while students are sitting on them, he said.

Moser also said several of the student and teacher desks are held together with duct tape, so new ones were needed.

Homecoming Game

The Riverview Raiders will have a weekend-long homecoming celebration next school year.

The school board agreed to have a Friday night homecoming parade and football game instead of the usual Saturday afternoon. The game will be on the evening of Oct. 7. The dance will be on Oct. 8.

Secretary and Treasurer Appointments

Business manager Frank Thompson has been appointed as the 2011-12 board secretary. Nancy Morrison will be the board treasurer.

Laptop Lease

The board approved a lease purchase agreement with Hewett-Packard Financial Services for 100 5103 laptop computers. The cost is $79,460 for three years.

Resignation

Paul Romito, secondary math teacher, resigned. It was effective June 10.

Summer Session Positions

The following personnel were approved for summer session supplemental positions: Audrey Terebessy, Josh Cosentino, Meredith Progar and Paul Romito. They will be paid $37 per hour.

Summer Custodial Workers

The following people will be summer custodial workers at the minimum wage rate of $7.25 per hour: April McKinney, Matt Connelly, Jacob Miller, Lauren McKee, Mia Bencivenga, Rocky Geppert, Brandon Peuso, Shane Scott, Brett Rogalsky and Noah Stumpt.

Recycling Program

School board member Dave Kadylak said he'd like to see the district team up with the borough at some point to discuss possibly adding a recycling program at Riverside Park.
