Riverview's Homecoming Game Might Be Held On a Friday Night This Year

The Riverview School Board is expected to make a decision at its June 27 meeting.

Riverview Raiders might have the chance to participate in weekend-long homecoming festivities next school year.

At its June 27 meeting, the Riverview School Board is expected to make a decision that would move the homecoming parade and football game from a Saturday afternoon to a Friday evening.

Riverview High School Principal Jay Moser suggested the change at a school board meeting earlier this month. The homecoming parade and game against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart would be on the evening of Oct. 7. The dance would be held on Oct. 8.

In the past, the Riverview parade, game and dance have been scheduled on the same day, but Moser said people usually leave the game early to get ready for the dance.

"The stands then look empty," Moser said. "By making the switch, we won't take away from our own activity."

Superintendent Charles Erdeljac said it was a "neat idea." Several board members agreed.

The board will meet on June 27 at 7 p.m. at the library.
