Businessman Spearheads Effort for Pirates Outdoors Screen During Playoff Run

Where would you like to watch the Bucs if you can't get tickets to PNC Park?

Article by Editor Richard Cook

Taking a page from the Pittsburgh Penguins’ playoff playbook, Ross Township financial specialist David E. Martin thinks an giant outdoors screen should be set up to allow fans without PNC Park tickets to watch the Pirates, should they make the playoffs.

“Why not? Can you imagine the excitement of such a venue?” asked Martin. “The Pirates have made summer fun again in Pittsburgh, and let’s face it, there are way more fans than available seats at PNC Park.”

Martin has approached several organizations, including the Pirates, the Steelers, the H.J. Heinz Company and others about setting up an outdoor venue for the playoffs.

He’s even started a Facebook page so fans can add their suggested venues

Martin said there are plenty of viable options, including Heinz FieldPoint State Park, The Clemente Bridge (which closes for Pirates home games), and the Consol Energy Center, just to name a few.

“We need to get the planning for this done now,” said Martin. “It may be for just one wildcard game, or hopefully, right through the World Series. It worked well for the Penguins, why not the Pirates?”
