What’s Happening in Verona

Verona’s fourth Concert In the Park for this season features Beth Doucherty with a program of acoustic rock from 6 to 8 pm this Thursday, June 13 in Verona Railroad Park on East Railroad Avenue. Remember to bring a blanket and/or chair so you can learn back and relax and also bring a snack or two, although Patti Tumminello and Maryann Yingling will have snacks available.

Thursday, June 13 is the day the Farmers’ Market opens from 2 to 6 pm in Verona Railroad Park by the gazebo on East Railroad Avenue. More farmers are expected to display their wares. How good is it to have fresh veggies for dinner?

Saturday, June 15 get out your walking shoes so you can comfortably visit all the Open Gardens during Verona Flower and Garden Club’s Open Garden Tour from 10 am until 2 pm. This gives you a bit more time than last year so you have the opportunity to see all the gardens (who knew Verona had so many green thumbs?) Maps will be available at the corner of South and Allegheny River Blvd. Balloons will float about the the designated gardens. Snacks will be available at some garden stops.

Monday, June 17 is the first day of the Twin Boros Health Ministry’s Summer Lunch and Fun Camp. The Summer Lunch and Fun Camp runs from 9 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday until August 18. There will be nourishment of mind, spirit, soul, and body for those 18 or younger; plus crafts, drinks, snacks, activities and staff stipends. For more information, please call Shirley Davis at 412-828-3412. Just a note: All this is provided through donations to the Twin Boro Health Ministries and the generosity of members of our communities including local businesses and corporations, which mean Fun Camp is free! Thank you!

Wednesday, June 26 is the monthly Community Dinner served between 4:30 and 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall of Verona United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Center and Herron avenues. This is primarily for the 50+ group, so they have a place to meet and talk and gossip and enjoy each others company.

After dinner on Wednesday, June 26 go on down to Verona Railroad Park on East Railroad Avenue and enjoy guitarist, Donna Occhipinti as she entertains from 7 to 8 pm during the fifth Concert in the Park.  Remember your blanket and/or chair and snacks and drinks. Additional snacks will be available.

And finally, Friday, June 28 Movies in the Park will be held in Cribbs Field on Second Street. The featured movie, DRAGONS, RIDERS OF THE BERK, will begin at dusk. As always bring a chair or blanket so you will be comfortable. Popcorn and a drink will be available.

Before you know it, it will be time for Kennywood on Wednesday, July 10. This will be the community’s 101 year of going to Kennywood
