Weekend Fundraisers Planned in Memory of Fallen Officer Derek Kotecki

The Kinloch Volunteer Fire Department in Lower Burrell and Pittsburgh National Golf Club in Gibsonia will hold fundraisers this weekend.

Two fundraisers have been planned this weekend in memory of Lower Burrell fallen officer Derek Kotecki.

North Of Mason-Dixon (NOMaD) and Saddle Up Band will hold a concert at the Kinloch Volunteer Fire Department in Lower Burrell on Friday, Oct. 21. The VFD is at 199 New York Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit the event Facebook page.

The Pittsburgh National Golf Club in Gibsonia will hold a golf and spaghetti dinner benefit on Sunday, Oct. 23.

The $40 cost for the all-day event includes 18 holes, a cart and a spaghetti dinner. Proceeds to will benefit the Derek Kotecki Memorial Fund. Donations will be accepted at the door.

On Oct. 12, . The 18-year veteran was shot when he and his K-9 partner, Odin, exited their squad car in the Dairy Queen parking lot along Greensburg Road (on the New Kensington/Plum border), where Kotecki had been dispatched to apprehend wanted man Charlie Post.

Kotecki leaves behind a wife and two young sons, as well as many friends and colleagues.

Anyone who can't attend but would like to make donations to the memorial fund for Kotecki’s family can do so by sending them to S&T Bank, 4251 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, PA 15668. Checks should be made payable to:
