Longwood Donates School Supplies to Pittsburgh School

The Plum senior living community collected more than 650 school supply items.

School is back in session, and residents and staff members of Longwood at
Oakmont have helped several students obtain new school supplies.

Throughout the month of July, the members of the Plum Borough senior living community collected school supplies as a part .

More than 650 pieces of school supplies were collected and donated to the Pittsburgh Public School District’s Faison K-5 Primary School. Those items included:
• 30 backpacks
• 90 one-subject notebooks
• 90 packs of crayons
• 90 rulers
• 225 folders
• 90 packs of pencils
• and an assortment of erasers, pens, pencil sharpeners, scissors, construction paper, markers and
miscellaneous art supplies.

“All of us at Longwood at Oakmont are happy to be able to assist Pittsburgh’s future generation in achieving a good education,” said Carl Manganaro, Resident Council President for Longwood at Oakmont. “By donating these materials, we hope that it helps students feel more prepared and empowered as they enter the new school year.”

School personal said they are thankful for the donation.

“We are grateful to the surrounding businesses and organizations such as Longwood at Oakmont who continually give back to our community by enriching students' lives with supplies, tutoring, after school activities and much more,” said Tanya Ashby, School Community Liaison for Pittsburgh Faison K-5. “With approximately 90 percent of our students utilizing the free reduced meal program, these materials will go a long way, and help a family who may be struggling to provide their child with the necessary tools for the school year.”
