Upcoming Fundraisers to Benefit Riverview Relay for Life

The Riverview Relay for Life committee is holding several events to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

This year is the 12th anniversary for the , and committee members are holding several fundraisers in the next month.

Riverview Relay for Life is a 24-hour fundraising event for the American Cancer Society that includes team activities, live music, food concessions, raffles and games while team members take turns walking or running around the track.

This year's event will be May 19 to 20 at in Oakmont. Last year, the event of $1 million earned toward the cancer society in 11 years. Now, they're working toward reaching $2 million.

How you can help:

  • Form a Relay team of family, friends or co-workers with a $100 commitment fee. Anyone can participate in this non-competitive event.
  • Register as a cancer survivor.
  • Be a corporate sponsor, with its many benefits, at $1,000 and more. 
  • Donate a gift card or merchandise for raffles.
  • Place an ad in the event program or a sign for the track.
  • Purchase a luminaria candle in memory or in honor of a loved one.
  • Attend the event for a day of festivities for people of all ages.

Pampered Chef

Purchase Pampered Chef items online at www.pamperedchef.biz/johnhoward to help support the Relay. Enter Barbara Kutilek under #1 “already invited to a show” and follow the onscreen instructions to select your items and place your order. People who orders more than $60 worth of items receive a free gift. Call 412-828-8593 for more information. Orders must be placed by Sunday, March 25.

Bingo

A Bingo event will be held Friday, April 13, at the William McKinley Center on Seventh Street and Center Avenue in Penn Hills (near the Verona border). Doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo starts at 7. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door—the cost includes door prizes and 20 games (12 cards per game) plus one set of specials.  Refreshments are available and there will be a Chinese auction.  Call Anna Mayhood at 412-826-9445 for tickets and information.

Relay for Life Gala

The fourth-annual Relay for Life Gala will be held at Futules’ Harmar House in Cheswick on Friday, April 20 from 7 to 11:30 p.m.  This dinner-dance was started a few years ago by Oakmont Mayor Bob Fescemyer and his Keystone Cancer Killers Relay team. It combines delicious food, some one-of-a kind auction items, celebrity guests and great music and dancing that makes for a wonderful night out for all.  

Nick Futules, Harmar House owner and Allegheny County councilman, will once again create a menu featuring appetizers, chicken scaloppini, carved beef and ham, ziti with marinara sauce and alfredo sauce, parsley red skinned potatoes, green beans, salad bar, soft drinks and dessert. There will be a cash bar.  

Over the last four years, this event alone has raised more than $40,000 to help fund critical cancer research as well as patient services and educational programs provided by the American Cancer Society. A $35 advanced ticket is required.

There will be a dining fundraiser at Atrias Restaurant in O’Hara Township on Wednesday, May 2.
