Five Things You Need to Know: Verona Fall Festival, Gladiator Rock’N Run, Plum Food Drive

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Verona Fall Festival

Now in its 12th year, the annual Verona Fall Festival takes place Sept.5, 6 and 7 in the Verona Municipal Park along East Railroad Avenue near the borough building.

The event typically includes rides, games, food and more.

2. Tai Chi Evening Classes at Plum Senior Center

Tai Chi Evening will begin at the Plum Senior Center, located at 499 Center New Texas Road, for eight weeks beginning Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Classes for advanced and intermediate students take place at 6:30 p.m. Beginner courses are from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $40. For more information, call Jim Davis at 412-798-2937.

3. Gladiator Rock'N Run Pittsburgh

Former American Gladiator Dan “Nitro” Clark has organized this 17-obstacle course. The Gladiator Rock’n Run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Steel City Raceway in Export.

The run benefits Talk About Curing Autism, an organization dedicated to educating, empowering and supporting families affected by autism.

During the 3.5-mile course, participants will race through fiery flames, blast through a waist-deep icy pool of water and slither along on their bellies through a trough of mud.

Spectators are encouraged to attend and enjoy concessions at the beer garden throughout the day.

4. Food Drive at Community Market

Donations to benefit the Plum Food Pantry will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Verona Community Market.

There will be free food and drinks at the events. The drive is sponsored by the D. Johnson Erie Insurance Agency.  

5. Verner PTO Meeting

The Verner Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 in the school library at Verner Elementary.
