Artwork on Display at Oakmont Library

Oakmont Library will feature the works of Marcia Miller from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1. In the mid-1980s, Miller started decorative painting as a hobby to combat empty nest syndrome.

From her roots in tole painting, she has expanded her use of media into watercolors, oils, colored pencils, and acrylics. Her painting surfaces include furniture, clothing, large tools such as saws and traditional canvas.

The Oakmont resident also is an active member of Town and Country Decorative Painters and Golden Triangle Decorative Painters.

Oakmont Democrats Present Dr. Cyril Wecht

Dr. Cyril Wecht, MD, JD, will speak on his various cases, including his work on the JFK assassination, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Greek Social Hall at 12 Washington Avenue in Oakmont.

Wecht will answer questions and sign copies of his books.  The cost for the event is $10 per person. Call 412-828-1759 for reservations. Refreshments will be provided. 

Octoberfest at Plum Senior Community Center

Come for fun and food and stay on for the farmers' market. 

The Plum Senior Community Center kicks off Octoberfest at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. There will be sausages, hot pretzels and German potato salad as well as free root beer with purchase.

There also will be a farmers market from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. featuring produce, jewelry, crafts and food.

Plum Senior Community Center is located at 499 Center New Texas Road in Plum. 

October Exhibit at the Boulevard Gallery

The October Exhibit at the Boulevard Gallery will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 through Oct. 26. Works featured will include multi-media pieces by Barbara Miller and photographer Frank Bruno and Designs by Gretch (genuine fur bags, purses and vests). 

An artists’ reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Boulevard Gallery located at 736 Allegheny River Blvd, Verona.  For more information, call 412-828-1031 or visit www.BoulevardGallery.com

Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals will take place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 378 Delaware Avenue in Oakmont.

All animals are welcome to come into the church for a brief service of prayer. Animals should be leashed or crated as appropriate. Donations will benefit the Animal Rescue League Wildlife Center in Verona.
