Although The Oaks has the look and feel of a traditional movie house, it's anything but conventional. Manager Randy Collins says that in addition to screening an eclectic mix of new releases, foreign films and cult classics, the theater has evolved into a community gathering place. Collins says the theater - a 430-seat, single-screen venue that's been around since 1938 - partners with the Oakmont Carnegie Library for book discussions, hosts a regular brunch series and serves food from local establishments. And for those 21 and older who enjoy something a little stronger than soda with their popcorn, The Oaks has a BYOB policy (see website for details).
