Giant Eagle Stores Requiring Advantage Card for Self-Checkout Lanes

Giant Eagle stores are now requiring that shoppers using self-checkout lanes have a store loyalty card. The Post-Gazette reports the supermarket chain recently began rolling out technology in its stores requiring a Giant Eagle Advantage Card for anyone using self-checkout lanes. The technology prompts customers to scan their Advantage Card before proceeding to scan items for purchase. In the past, anyone could use the self-check out aisles regardless of loyalty card status. Dick Roberts, Giant Eagle spokesman, told the newspaper that requiring an Advantage Card ensures that customers are receiving weekly specials, GetGo fuelperks, cash register coupon offers and other savings.
