A group of parents told the Riverview School Board they are concerned about girls' basketball coach's behavior.
Some parents say they're unhappy with the coach's treatment of players on the Riverview High School girls' basketball team. On Monday night, a handful of parents told the school board they're "disturbed" by coach Keith Stitt's behavior toward the Lady Raider team. Others defended the coach. Stitt, who has been coaching the Lady Raiders for four seasons, didn't respond to emails sent by the Plum-Oakmont Patch seeking comment. Parent Carol Segelson Dezort said the coaching staff has displayed aggressive and intimidating behavior toward the players. Dezort also said Stitt grabbed a player by the neck during the Jan. 14 game against Springdale—he received a three- to five-day suspension. "I'm sure we can do better as a district in finding …

The Plum Borough School District will be offering a series of summer activities for students, grades K to 9. The summer activity schedule will run from June 11 to June 28. All of the activities will be held at various locations at Plum Senior High School. Two RHS basketball players have been nominated to win the title of Hoop Stars, presented by the U.S. Army. With your help, they can win.
Riverview High School basketball players Corey Bickert and Mary Andrejko have been nominated to win the title of Hoop Stars. Hoops Stars is presented by the U.S. Army. Andrejko, a player on the girls Varsity Basketball team, netted 24 points to lead Riverview to a 72-44 win over Highlands this season. A player on the boys Varsity Basketball team, Bickert's 30-point effort pushed him past 1,000 points for his career and led Riverview to a 65-52 ovetrime win over Shady Side Academy this season. Plum held off Latrobe 53-51 in the last minutes of Saturday's game and will advance to face first-seed Shaler.
The Plum boys basketball team survived a furious last-minute comeback by Latrobe to prevail 53-51 in the WPIAL preliminary round of the playoffs on Saturday. The Mustangs held a double digit lead in the fourth quarter, but converted only nine of their 20 foul shots. Latrobe senior Christopher Dudzenski missed a three-pointer from just inside half court at the buzzer, however, allowing Plum to advance to face number one seed Shaler. Nolan Cressler scored a game-high 29 points, and Tarique Ellis contributed 11 points for the Mustangs before he fouled out late in the fourth quarter. The Plum girls varsity basketball team lost by more than half of Baldwin's points in their first playoff game on Friday.
For the second year in a row on Friday night, Feb. 18, the Baldwin High School varsity girls basketball team defeated Plum Borough High School in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. The Highlanders (17-5 overall) trounced the Mustangs (12-10), 50-23, in a neutral-site game at North Allegheny High School on Friday night and will now face Oakland Catholic High School in the second round on Friday, Feb. 25, at an exact time and place to be determined. Oakland Catholic (15-8) topped a section opponent of Baldwin's – Upper St. Clair High School (9-13) – also on Feb. 18, 57-44. The Plum varsity basketball team defeated Franklin Regional 62-44 to advance to the playoffs.
Plum’s boys varsity basketball team clinched a playoff spot Friday night with a 62-44 victory over Franklin Regional. The win improved the Mustangs to 6-6 in section play, with an overall record of 9-11. For such a young team, advancing to the postseason constitutes a successful campaign. “It is a heck of an accomplishment," Plum Head Coach Ron Richards said. "If you would’ve said to me coming into the season we would make the playoffs, I would’ve been very happy. Now these kids have a chance to play some extra basketball.” Nolan Cressler paced the Plum attack, scoring a game-high 22 points. The Mustangs struggled in the second half, losing to Gateway 56-40.
The Plum boys varsity basketball team was overwhelmed in the second half by Gateway in a 56-40 defeat Tuesday. The loss damaged Plum’s playoffs hopes, as the Mustangs now have a 5-6 record in section play, tying them with McKeesport and Woodland Hills. Plum kept the game close through the first 16 minutes, as it trailed by only a point heading into the half. Gateway controlled the play in the decisive third quarter, however, as the Gators forced numerous turnovers and dominated Plum on both ends of the court. The Gators outscored Plum 22-10 in the third and never allowed the Mustangs to cut into their lead down the stretch. “We were physically overwhelmed," head Coach Ron Richards said. Krista Pietropola led Plum to a 45-38 victory Thursday night.
Despite being outscored by five points in the fourth quarter, the Plum girls basketball team held on to defeat McKeesport 45-38 Thursday. The Lady Mustangs managed to avenge a 52-37 defeat suffered three weeks ago at McKeesport. The victory improved Plum’s record to 5-3 in section play, and 9-7 overall on the season. Freshman Krista Pietropola led the Lady Mustangs with 18 points, and Angelena Borriello added ten points. Plum also got an emotional boost with the return of senior center Lindsay Deemer. Deemer, who missed several weeks with an illness, entered the game late in the first quarter to a tremendous ovation.
