New Owner Chosen for Mystery Lovers Bookshop

Laurie Miller Stephens of Dallas, TX, will head the Oakmont bookshop. She will be introduced to the community tonight during the Festival of Mystery.

Mystery Lovers Bookshop in Oakmont has a new owner. Laurie Miller Stephens of Dallas, TX, has been chosen by current owners Richard Goldman and Mary Alice Gorman to run the well-known community bookshop. Stephens will be introduced to the community during the 17th Festival of Mystery tonight, Monday. According to an announcement made by Goldman and Gorman, Stephens is a highly-informed reader of mystery books with a knowledge of bookstore operations and love of children’s books. Goldman and Gorman announced they would be selling the shop and retiring on Feb. 14 after 21 years in the business. New Oakmont Library Bookstore a Success

"The Squirrel's Nest" inside Oakmont Carnegie Library is quickly becoming a community institution.

Two members of the Oakmont Library staff shared a vision. Library board president George Coulter and library assistant Dixie Anderson made their dreams a reality with the opening of a library bookstore, "The Squirrel's Nest." Coulter had attended a library trustee meeting and was inspired by a presentation from a group that had opened a bookstore inside a library to raise money. Anderson always had envisioned recycling donated materials into a bookstore. The Squirrel's Nest, which had its grand opening on Nov. 24, can be found on the lower level of the library, accessible by an elevator and ramp. The bookstore features all genres of books, videos, DVDs and CDs — completely stocked by donations from the community that otherwise cannot be …
