Businesses in the area can sign up to participate in the chamber's first-ever showcase.
Businesses in the Plum area will have an opportunity to network with each other and the community. The Plum Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first-ever business showcase on Tuesday, April 16, at Plum High School. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be open to the public. Businesses interested in participating can do so by reserving a table at the event. The cost is $75 for chamber members and $100 for non-members. The deadline to reserve a table is April 5, and space is limited. Contact the chamber office at 412-798-2300 to make a reservation. The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce will host the Celebrate Oakmont Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Local residents can enjoy what community businesses have to offer during the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce's Celebrate Oakmont event. The chamber expo will be held on from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Greek Orthodox social hall and Riverside Landing on Washington Avenue. There will be door prizes, food, entertainment, more than 60 vendors and other festivities. The cost is $10 per ticket purchased in advance. Frank Furko, owner of the Hunter Brothers general store, has some original items from the store available for purchase.
At the corner of Hulton Road and Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont, the former Hunter Brothers general store has sat with closed doors for about 10 years, but it is far from a vacant building. Inside sit century-old pieces from the store’s heyday that owner Frank Furko wants someone to purchase and put to good use. “I’d like this stuff to go with someone who can use it,” Furko, 80, said. “It’s great stuff. I’d keep it if I had the room.” The store was opened in the late 1800s by two brothers—the Hunter brothers—and was purchased from Thomas Hunter in 1947 by Furko’s father, James. “My dad worked here since he was 23 years old and stuck around until he was 94,” Furko said. “He never did anything but work here. The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank will receive $1,300 in advertising credits on the 13 Patch sites in western Pennsylvania thanks to the many businesses, agencies and organizations that claimed their listings in the directories on each Patch site during March. The food bank, which collects and distributes food throughout 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania, can use the advertising credit it accrued as a result of those donations for advertising space on every Patch site in the region.
