Here are some detour details if you're traveling on the parkway over the next few weekends.
Get ready to experience some delays on the Parkway East for the next two weekends. The outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the parkway will be closed during the next two weekends, April 19 to 22 and April 26 to 29. The closures will begin earlier than usual—from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require eastbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange (Exit 74). Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered. If you drive through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel frequently, take note that all inbound lanes will be closed later this month. The first of eight possible weekend closures of the westbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will occur July 27 to 30. In addition to other rehabilitation work and multiple improvement activities, crews will begin removing the drop-ceiling and concrete patching the roadway inside the westbound tunnel. When overall work is completed, vertical clearance in the westbound tunnel will increase by two feet from 13 feet, 6 inches to 15 feet, 6 inches. Southbound (inbound) Route 28 will be closed at the Millvale Interchange (Exit 3) on Friday night, Feb. 24, weather permitting. The overnight closure will occur from 8 p.m. Friday through approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. Brief stoppages for equipment mobilization may also occur on northbound Route 28. Crews will be installing overhead sign structures at the former Millvale Industrial Park and at the Millvale interchange. Southbound traffic will be required to exit at the Millvale off-ramp traveling under Route 28 to the on-ramp to the 40th Street Bridge. The ramp from the outbound (eastbound) Parkway East to Plum/northbound Route 48 (Exit 84B) in Monroeville will be closed on Wednesday night, Nov. 9. Crews will be replacing concrete shoulders. The closure will occur from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the Plum outbound off-ramp closures.
