A local bar owner has been charged with operating illegal gambling devices.
The owner of an Oakmont bar has been charged with operating illegal gambling devices in his establishment. Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti said borough officers and officials from the Allegheny County Narcotics Division and the PA Liquor Control Board raided Steve's Inn on Allegheny Avenue a few weeks ago. He said officials found gambling machines and drug paraphernalia in the bar. DiSanti said the liquor license for Steve's Inn has been suspended. Owner Stephen Yohler, 60, was charged with conspiracy and two counts of gambling devices. Allegheny County police filed the charges. Three people are facing drug-related charges after a drug bust in Verona. During the Verona Council meeting on Tuesday, Police Chief Ron McLemore said police officers obtained a search warrant for a home on Center Avenue, where drug activity had been suspected. During the search, which occurred on Dec. 13, police found drug paraphernalia and suspected heroin. Police charged David Lee Collins, 53, of Verona with prohibited offensive weapon, possession of a controlled substance and prohibited acts; Terri Schleicher, 45, of Verona with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Mark Roth, 52, of Verona with possession of drug paraphernalia. A Plum man faces drug-related charges after a routine traffic stop in Whitehall Borough on Saturday, Aug. 18. A Whitehall police officer stopped a motorist in the Whitehall Borough section of Clairton Boulevard (Route 51) at around 4:21 p.m. under suspicion that his vehicle's registration had expired, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. Upon approaching the motorist—Dominick Mastrogiacomo III, 29—the officer smelled marijuana coming from Mastrogiacomo's vehicle, Danko said.
