Wanted Man Arrested in Verona, Indicted by Grand Jury

Frank Perez, Jr., was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh.

United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced Thursday that a Verona man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh. The charges against Frank Perez, Jr., 31, of Center Avenue, included assaulting federal officers and violations of federal firearm laws.  According to the indictment, Perez forcibly assaulted, resisted, opposed, impeded and interfered with Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, through the use of three firearms, while the agents were engaged in their official duties.  Perez could face a total sentence of not less than 10 years and up to life in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.  Read the previous story: Man Wanted on Murder Charges Arrested After Verona Standoff

International Fugitive Held Without Bail

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert C. Mitchell ordered Frank Perez Jr. to be held without bail during a preliminary hearing on Friday. Perez is an international fugitive who is accused of shooting at FBI on Tuesday during a standoff in Verona.

Perez to Appear in Federal Court Wednesday Afternoon

Frank Perez Jr., who is wanted on murder charges in Indiana and kidnapping charges in Mexico, is in custody after an afternoon standoff in Verona on Tuesday.

An international fugitive who shot at police and surrendered after a three-hour standoff in Verona yesterday will appear in federal court today. Frank Perez Jr., 30, who is wanted on murder charges in Indiana and kidnapping charges in Mexico, will have an initial appearance at the Pittsburgh Courthouse before Magistrate Judge Robert Mitchell at 1:15 p.m. this afternoon. Perez is wanted for a 1999 murder that occurred in Lake County, Indiana and a kidnapping in Mexico. He also is accused of being involved with a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigation. Perez is said to have been living in Verona with his girlfriend and a child for two months. Several residents who watched the standoff unfold on Tuesday afternoon mentioned seeing …

UPDATE: Man Wanted on Murder and Kidnapping Charges Arrested After Verona Standoff

Police, SWAT team, FBI and emergency personnel have been on scene on Center Avenue in Verona as they tried to detain the homicide suspect.

Pittsburgh police have confirmed that Frank Perez Jr., who is wanted on murder charges in Indiana and kidnapping charges in Mexico, is in custody after an afternoon standoff in Verona. Law enforcement officials led Perez from an apartment building in Verona after a standoff with SWAT, FBI and police. Perez was wearing a white shirt and was in handcuffs as he was escorted from the building shortly after 5:30 p.m. Center Avenue in Verona in between Allegheny River Boulevard and Athletic Street has been closed off as police, FBI and SWAT officials tried to detain a Perez. Officials are now conducting a sweep of the building to make sure there are no bombs or other weapons. South Avenue is also blocked off and residents in the area of the …
