Hulton Bridge Lane Restrictions to Occur Through June

The restrictions began Monday, April 29.

Anyone who crosses the Hulton Bridge during the day should expect some restrictions for the next two months. Lane restrictions on the Oakmont bridge began Monday, April 29. Short term lane restrictions on the east side of the bridge will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, including weekends, through June 29. Crews from Duquesne Light will be installing new poles. Restrictions to Occur on Freeport Road Tuesday

Anyone heading to Harmar from Oakmont should be aware of these restrictions.

Traffic on southbound Freeport Road will be reduced to a single lane today, April 23, in Harmar Township. The southbound right lane will be closed from the Hulton Bridge (connecting to Oakmont) to Powers Run Road. Restrictions will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crews under contract with Verizon will be digging test holes to locate conduits. Patch Reader Starts Petition to Save the Hulton Bridge

John Goold hopes other options can be explored in favor of demolition.

A Plum-Oakmont Patch reader has formed an online petition in support of saving the Hulton Bridge. John Goold recently posted the petition on Patch inviting signatures from anybody who favors exploring options that don't involve tearing down the historic bridge. The Hulton Bridge replacement in Oakmont and Harmar Township is one of the most significant upcoming PennDOT projects in the area this year. Built in 1908, Hulton Bridge carries traffic over the Allegheny River between Oakmont and Harmar and has two lanes of traffic. According to PennDOT, the scope of $60 million to $80 million project will include replacing the existing bridge with a "simple but elegant" four-lane structure just upstream of the existing bridge. This guy must not sit in the daily traffic jams. I think I read in an earlier article that he stops by to see it whenever he is in the area. 2 tractor trailer passing each other on the bridge is frightening ! I saw a school bus lose a side mirror to a truck going the other way last year.   more ›

Hulton Bridge to be Inspected Tuesday and Wednesday

You might want to avoid the Hulton Bridge if you can on those days.

Work to inspect the Hulton Bridge will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 16-17, weather permitting.    The bridge, which carries Hulton Road over the Allegheny River in Oakmont and Harmar Township, will be reduced to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as needed on both days. Traffic will alternate. Crews from SAI Consulting Engineers will conduct the work. Short-Term Single Lane Traffic to Occur Tuesday on Freeport Road in Harmar

Here's a traffic update.

Short-term single lane alternating use traffic on the bridge that carries Freeport Road over Barge Basin (Guys/Campbells Run) in Harmar will occur today, Sept. 25. Restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the bridge area between the Hulton Bridge and Guys Run Road—the road is located right across the Allegheny River from Oakmont Borough. Crews will be moving temporary concrete barrier for the next phase of bridge improvements.    About 11,098 vehicles use this bridge on an average day. Motorists should be prepared for stop conditions and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
