The Internal Revenue Service announced annual inflation adjustments for tax year 2013, including the tax rate schedules, and other tax changes from the recently passed American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. The tax items for 2013 of greatest interest to most taxpayers include the following changes. Details on these inflation adjustments and others are contained in Revenue Procedure 2013-15, which will be published in Internal Revenue Bulletin 2013-5 on Jan.28, 2013. Following the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the Internal Revenue Service announced it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30. The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on that date after updating forms and completing programming and testing of its processing systems. This will reflect the bulk of the late tax law changes enacted Jan. 2. The announcement means that the vast majority of tax filers—more than 120 million households—should be able to start filing tax returns starting Jan 30. Louis Lamanna, 46, of Oakmont has pleaded guilty to three counts of willful failure to pay income taxes on Monday.
A builder from Oakmont has pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges after being accused of borrowing money to pay taxes and using it on "luxury cars," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. On Monday, Louis Lamanna, 46, pleaded guilty to three counts of willful failure to pay income taxes. According to the Post-Gazette, Lamanna owed the Internal Revenue Service more than $600,000 in back taxes. He told agents he took out a loan to pay the debt, and then spent the money on "luxury" items. Lamanna could face more than two years in prison, have to pay the money he owes, as well as a $300,000 fine. In December, Lamanna was indicted by a grand jury on in Pittsburgh on charges of evasion of tax payment bankruptcy fraud, and money laundering. He …

The IRS encourages taxpayers to e-file as it is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds.
