There could be very little rush to the Monday morning rush hour. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Plum, Oakmont and Verona. A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Due to very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy. Forecasters called for a night of freezing rain, sleet and snow—and that's what we got. Residents in Plum, Oakmont and Verona were graced with a winter wonderland when they looked out their windows this morning. Some have even gotten a head start in shoveling and salting. Salt trucks and plows were heard driving through Verona throughout the night. Second Street and immediate surrounding areas are clear. Residents in some neighborhood roads in Plum have reported their roads untouched. At of 7:30 a.m. Renton Road was snow-covered. Areas around Holiday Park have been plowed. It's going to be a snowy weekend! If you just shoveled your driveway or sidewalk, get ready to do it again. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, going into effect at 7 tonight and ending at 1 p.m. Saturday. The area is supposed to get 1/4-inch of ice and 1 to 4 inches of snow total. Tonight's low is 24 degrees, with a high of 32 Saturday. Snow likely will start before midnight Saturday, then snow, freezing rain and sleet. New overnight snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible.
