Plum Baseball & Softball Association already has scheduled a meeting and registration dates.
Plum Borough Council and the Plum Baseball & Softball Association are putting the finishing touches on the preparation for the spring baseball season. Councilman Mike Doyle said on Monday that council and the PBSA are determining a time frame for the lease on eight ballfields along Ross Hollow Road. The group is ready to take over the baseball/softball program in the borough. A membership meeting and registration dates already have been scheduled to occur in March. Borough officials also will file a complaint in Common Pleas Court in response to an appeal filed by the Plum Borough Athletic Association—it previously ran the borough's baseball/softball program—regarding its lease termination. If all goes as planned, Plum officials will issue a ballfield permit to the Plum Baseball & Softball Association by the end of the week.
Plum officials are hoping to start the spring Little League baseball/softball season soon. While most Little League organizations already have started registering children for the upcoming season, a permit for use of the eight borough ballfields has yet to be issued to a sports association in Plum. However, borough Solicitor Bruce Dice said Monday that officials plan to issue a permit to the Plum Baseball & Softball Association—a new nonprofit organization—by Friday. Plum District Magistrate Linda Zucco ruled during a landlord-tenant hearing last month that the Plum Borough Athletic Association has violated its lease with the borough, therefore terminating it. The Plum Borough Athletic Association most likely will not operate the youth baseball/softball program in Plum this season.
Plum Borough Athletic Association most likely will be dissolving. PBAA members received a note from the new executive board on Saturday stating the association would not fight its lease termination. The vote was taken by the board at a membership meeting on Thursday. "This decision was not made easily, and to be honest, tears were shed at the table when the final vote was taken," the letter, which was sent to the Plum-Oakmont Patch, states. Plum District Magistrate Linda Zucco ruled the PBAA to be in violation of its lease agreement with the borough after a landlord-tenant hearing on Jan. 17.
