Area Congressmen Vote In Favor of Fiscal Cliff Deal

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 late Tuesday night.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 to avert the fiscal cliff late Tuesday night. The vote was 257 to 167. U.S. Reps Mike Doyle (D-14), Mark Critz (R-12) and Tim Murphy (R-18) voted in favor of passing the legislation. Doyle's district covers Oakmont and Verona, Critz's district covers Plum and Murphy's covers nearby Monroeville. Murphy explained his vote in this statement: “The process and product are imperfect, but what has been achieved can’t be overlooked. We’ve overcome the impasse to permanently lock in lower tax rates for 99 percent of taxpayers. If they want a place to start, lets start with their salaries! Why can't they take a pay cut like half of America has to keep their jobs. I wish I could vote myself a $5,000 or $10,000 raise! They should have to ask the people they represent if they deserve the raise. If the people vote "YES", then give it to them. Markosek Wins Another Term as State Rep

Longtime state Rep. Joe Markosek (D-25) will continue his work in the House of Representatives.

Longtime state Rep. Joe Markosek will serve two more years in office. On Tuesday, Markosek, a Democrat from Monroeville who has been representing the 25th Legislative District for 30 years, beat Republican Mike Doyle, a Plum councilman, for the second time—the two faced off in 2010, when Markosek beat Doyle by 1,600 votes. With 46 out of 46 precincts in Allegheny County reporting, Markosek received 13,720 votes—56.9 percent—to Doyle's 10,348 votes—42.9 percent. In Westmoreland County, Markosek received 2,303 votes—44.6 percent—and Doyle received 2,862 votes —55.4 percent—with 5 of 5 precincts reporting. Doyle Wins 10th Term in Congress

Incumbent Mike Doyle, a Democrat, has won a 10th term as Pennsylvania's Congressional District 14 representative.

Democrat Mike Doyle has won a 10th term in Congress, defeating Republican Hans Lessmann for the Pennsylvania Congressional District 14 seat. Doyle, the incumbent from Forest Hills who is currently serving his ninth term in Congress, won with 77 percent of the vote. Doyle's tenure in Congress began in 1995. He serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is a member of the subcommittees on Energy and Power and Communications and Technology. He is a member in the House Democratic Caucus, and is the founder and co-chair of both the Congressional Autism Caucus (also known as the Coalition for Autism Research and Education) and the House Distributed Generation Caucus.
