Summer events are starting back up in the borough.
Everyone who loves the Verona Concert in the Park and Movies in the Park series will have something to cheer about—the first events of the season are kicking off this week. The 2012 season of the Verona Concert in the Park Series begins Wednesday, May 23, at 6 p.m. The Riverview High School Jazz Band will perform at the municipal park's gazebo next to the borough building. It is suggested visitors bring a folding chair to enjoy the free event. The first Movies in the Park event will be held Friday, May 25, at dusk. A new movie shooting in the area may be the perfect opportunity for pierogi-loving Pittsburghers to get on the big screen. WTAE reports Out of the Furnace, starring Oscar-winner Christian Bale, is looking for men of Slavic or Eastern European background to serve as extras in the film. Men should be age 35 or older and available to shoot on or around May 29, according to WTAE. Extras will be needed on set all day (between 12 to 14 hours) and will be paid minimum wage.
