Plum, Oakmont and Verona residents can help rebuild communities that were hit by Hurricane Sandy by donating cans of food, volunteering for cleanup efforts—or simply sending a tweet. Patch is excited to announce our new effort to help support devestated communities after the storm. For every tweet sent with the hashtag #PatchRebuilds, we will donate $1 to the AmeriCares Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund, up to $125,000. Your contribution will go toward medical and humanitarian aid, grants and programs to help Sandy survivors. Oakmont and Verona students are hoping to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy and "Restore the Shore."
Members of Riverview High School's Student Council, Builder's Club, National Honor Society and Key Club are uniting to raise money and supplies for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The students are working directly with Key Club officers in New Jersey (Point Pleasant and Lavallette) to deliver and provide supplies. Students will be collecting different items from Monday, Nov. 12, to Wednesday, Nov. 21, to help the victims rebuild their ability to achieve normalcy after the horrific damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Some items needed are canned food, bottles of water, soap, coats and hoodies, toothbrushes, toiletries and more. A complete list of items has been included in the media section of this article. Donations of many items for the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey will be accepted at the Verona Church this weekend.
Plum, Oakmont and Verona residents will have the opportunity to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. This weekend, there will be a collection drive at the Verona United Methodist Church, 798 Herron Avenue in Verona Borough. The collection will take place Saturday 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday 1 to 3 p.m. and Monday 6 to 8 p.m. Items will be delivered the weekend of Nov. 17. Here are the items that are needed: Cleaning supplies—sponges, gloves, mops, buckets and detergent—underwear and socks for men, women and children. Diabetic socks also will be collected. Employees help out, and you can, too.
It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in, packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. Anyone interested in making donations for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts can do so at the Monroeville Victory Center.
Due to the destruction from Hurricane Sandy to the New York City and New Jersey areas, the Monroeville/Plum Victory Center will act as a monetary drop off point for your donation to the Red Cross. The Victory Center is located at 339 Haymaker Road, Room 1102, Monroeville, PA 15146. Anyone interested in making a donation should make checks payable to the Red Cross. No cash will be accepted. The center is working directly with FedEx to accept and ship canned or boxed food to New York. The victory center is accepting food that will be shipped Monday.
