Panera Plans Cookie Campaign for Autism Awareness

The cookie campaign, "Pieces of Hope for Autism," begins on Tuesday for a limited time at Panera cafes throughout western Pennsylvania.

In honor of National Autism Awareness month, Panera Bread is hosting a cookie campaign this week to raise support and awareness. Panera Bread cafes throughout Western Pennsylvania are participating in the “Pieces of Hope for Autism” campaign from Tuesday, April 2to Saturday, April 6. Panera is selling the shortbread cookies shaped in the autism puzzle piece logo with all proceeds going to the Pittsburgh chapter of Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders. Celebrate Veterans Day With Some Freebies & Events

There are several things going on in the community to thank veterans.

There are many ways to celebrate Veterans Day in the community this year. Veterans Day is on Sunday, Nov. 11. Here's a look at some freebies for vets and some events in the area. Oakmont Carnegie Library The Oakmont Carnegie Library will celebrate our servicemen and women this Veterans Day weekend. There will be displays throughout the library about services for veterans and their families and information about Oakmont's military history. A moment of silence also will be observed at 2 p.m. Sunday around the flag on the front lawn. The public is invited to attend. Exhale Yoga In honor of Veterans Day, Exhale Yoga in Oakmont will hold a special donation class on Sunday at 11 a.m. This class will be free, but those attending are asked to give…

Plum-Oakmont Businesses, Organizations Support Breast Cancer Awareness

These upcoming events and promotions support the cause.

There are several ways to support breast cancer awareness locally over the next few days! Here are some upcoming events: Wine Tasting If you like wine, the Mighty Oak Barrel is hosting an event for you. The Oakmont restaurant will host a wine tasting on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 24 and 25, featuring women winemakers. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. Panera Bread Issues Power of Pink Challenge

A challenge between Pittsburgh and Cleveland Panera stores will raise money for breast cancer awareness—and up the ante for the city that buys the most Pink Ribbon bagels.

Panera Bread has issued the Power of Pink Challenge during the month of October to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Through Oct. 31, a portion of the proceeds from each Pink Ribbon bagel sold will be donated to the Young Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, benefitting the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation. As part of the challenge, Panera has pitted Pittsburgh against Cleveland—two cities, one cause. The city that purchases the most Pink Ribbon bagels will receive an additional $10,000 charity donation. Bagels can be pre-ordered from your local Panera by clicking here. Oakmont Panera Hosts 'Baker in Training' Event

Children are invited to the Oakmont Panera to train on Saturday.

The Panera Bread in Oakmont will be teaching young bakers on Saturday. The "Bakers in Training" event is open to all children ages 5 to 12. Beginning at 3 p.m., participants can visit the cafe to learn about the secrets of Panera Bread baking, decorate cookies, tour the cafe and more. There is no cost to attend the event. Panera, Bruegger's to Celebrate National Bagel Day

The Oakmont locations are participating!

Pittsburgh-area Panera Bread Cafés and Bruegger's Bagels are celebrating National Bagel Day on Thursday, Feb. 9. The Oakmont Panera, which is located on Allegheny River Boulevard is participating. Customers can receive a free bagel with the purchase of a coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate or espresso drink.  The Bruegger's in Oakmont is located on Allegheny Avenue. Like Bruegger's on Facebook and get a coupon for three free bagels on Thursday.

Police, Firefighters and EMTs to Receive Free Meal at Panera This Week

On Wednesday and Thursday, all police, firefighters and EMTs can get a free You Pick Two meal.

Panera Bread is showing appreciation to Community Heroes. On Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 11 and 12, all 28 Pittsburgh-area Panera Bread cafés will honor local firefighters, police and EMTs. By wearing their uniform or showing a service I.D. or badge, they can receive a Free You Pick Two. The local Panera Bread is on Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont. “Panera Bread likes to support the communities in which they are placed and the people in them,” said Sam Covelli, owner and operator of Covelli Enterprises, in a press release. “Our local first responder community heroes protect and serve us every day. Panera looks forward to serving them this time.”

Meeting, Greeting & Reading with 'The Bus'

Former Pittsburgh Steelers runningback Jerome Bettis met with fans at two area Panera Bread locations on Saturday in an effort to create awareness and raise money for his foundation, The Bus Stops Here.

To millions around the world, Jerome Bettis is known as 'The Bus,' the powerful retired Pittsburgh Steelers runningback. He's also a role model. On Saturday, hundreds of children—all with stars in their eyes—visited with Bettis, their hero, as he read Dr. Seuss' book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." "That was one of my favorites when I was a kid," Bettis told the Plum-Oakmont Patch. "Whenever I have a chance to read to kids, I read that book because it reminds me of when I was a kid."
