Let the games begin!
The Riverview Athletic Association kicked off spring baseball/softball season with a parade along Allegheny River Boulevard on Saturday. The teams marched from Verona to Riverside Park in Oakmont where the games began. Did you take photos? The parade will be held Saturday morning.
Anyone traveling on Allegheny River Boulevard on Saturday morning should be aware of some restrictions. On Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m., the Riverview Athletic Association will be celebrating opening day of the spring baseball/softball season with a parade. The Little League teams will march on the boulevard from Verona Borough to Riverside Park. The annual Christmas celebration and parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 17.
It's time to deck the halls in the Twin Boros this weekend! The Oakmont and Verona chambers of commerce are hosting the annual hometown Christmas celebration and parade on Saturday, Nov. 17. The parade begins at 5 p.m. in Oakmont this year and ends in Verona. Ian Petrella, the actor who plays Randy Parker in A Christmas Story, will be this year's parade grand marshal. Fans will have an opportunity to meet Petrella after the parade. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. on Allegheny River Boulevard in Verona and end at 7 p.m. there will be music, food and visits with Santa Claus in Verona. There are several things going on in the community to thank veterans.
There are many ways to celebrate Veterans Day in the community this year. Veterans Day is on Sunday, Nov. 11. Here's a look at some freebies for vets and some events in the area. Oakmont Carnegie Library The Oakmont Carnegie Library will celebrate our servicemen and women this Veterans Day weekend. There will be displays throughout the library about services for veterans and their families and information about Oakmont's military history. A moment of silence also will be observed at 2 p.m. Sunday around the flag on the front lawn. The public is invited to attend. The Plum Baseball & Softball Association and the Riverview Athletic Association kick off their spring season on Saturday.
It's time for little league baseball and softball! On Saturday, both the Plum Baseball & Softball Association and the Riverview Athletic Association will hold opening day events for their teams. This is the first time children in Plum are playing with the Plum Baseball & Softball Association, a new athletic group the took over after the Plum Borough Athletic Association disbanded due to lease violations and criminal charges against its former president. The PBSA has been able to keep things on schedule and begin the season on time. The Pittsburgh Pirates also have made a $5,000 donation toward the organization. The 36th Annual Oakmont-Verona Christmas Parade and Festival will be held on Nov. 19. Redeemer Lutheran School in Oakmont will hold its annual Veterans Day parade on Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The school will be honoring the men and women who have served in the military to defend the country. The parade will begin at 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. and a ceremony will follow at the Oakmont-Verona Cemetery. All veterans and those currently serving in the military will be honored at the ceremony. The community is invited to attend, and all members of the military can wear their uniforms. Cookies and hot cocoa will be served at the school after the service, where Christmas stockings will be filled for those on active duty. Anyone wishing to attend should call 412-793-5884.

Riverview High School kicked off its homecoming weekend Friday night with a parade and homecoming football game against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Seniors Erin Kennedy and John Connolly were crowned homecoming queen and king. Students will enjoy their homecoming dance tonight, Saturday, at the school cafeteria.

It's time for the homecoming festivities to begin. Riverview High School kicks off homecoming with a parade on Friday, Oct. 7. The parade will step off in Verona near the Verona Borough Building at 5:15 p.m. It will proceed on to Allegheny River Boulvard, through Oakmont and arrive at Riverside Park by 6:15. The homecoming football game against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart begins at 7:30 p.m. The queen and king will be crowned during the halftime show. The homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. This year's theme for homecoming is "Midnight In Paris."
