This cat has been neutered but not declawed.
This is Kenny, a cat in need of a home. According to his profile on the Animal Rescue League website, when Kenny first arrived at the shelter as a stray, he was extremely ill, but his foster mom nursed him through it to rebound as a happy, healthy cat. "Kenny ... is the perfect combination of affectionate and playful," the rescue league's website states. "He's a friendly boy who loves belly rubs. He also enjoys playing with just about anything—wand toys, balls, laser lights. "Kenny gets along well with other cats, and he often 'mothers' more frightened or hurt cats. Plus, look at that darling little face! How can you resist? "Because Kenny can playfully nibble on the fingers of those he loves, he would probably be best off in a home …

This guy needs a forever home.
Meet Peanut. Volunteers at Animal Rescue League said Peanut has been doing very well in his foster home. However, he still can be apprehensive around new people and will hide under the bed until he is comfortable. He is easily coaxed out from under the bed with a calm, loving voice and a good scratching on his cheeks and under his chin. Peanut is a very affectionate cat, but he definitely needs to be in a one-cat household. He has lived with a Labrador Retriever in the past, but would probably prefer to be alone. Do you have room in your heart and home for this admitted Big Boy?
Meet Big Boy. His face has being featured on the Animal Rescue League's Facebook page over the summer. Big Boy ended up back at the shelter weighing only 42 pounds; which is half of the weight he should be. During his summer vacation at the ARL Big Boy has been getting tons of love from the staff and livin’ the life. He is putting on weight and learning basic commands so he is adoption ready. Big Boy is a pit bull mix, almost 3 years old with a brindle coat and an expressive smile. Big Boy gets along well with children and has also lived with other dogs in the past—but proper introductions should be done with the adoptions counselors at the shelter to ensure he's a good fit for your family. "Big Boy is a smart boy and loves to play fetch …

This guy needs a home to enjoy his senior years.
Jasper is one of the older dogs at the Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh in need of a home where he can enjoy his senior years. He was surrendered, but there isn't much background information on him. Jasper appears to be house-trained and walks nicely on leash. He is almost 8 years old and is a calmer, more settled dog. He also doesn't need the same level of exercise as younger dogs, which may be a plus for some people. If you appreciate the qualities of an older dog, visit the shelter to meet Jasper. For inquiries about him, you can contact Sue at adoptadog.pgh@gmail.com. Jasper's adoption fee is $55. _______________________ Plum-Oakmont Patch is on Facebook and on Twitter. National Dog Day is Sunday, Aug. 26. What will you do to celebrate man's best friend?
You might celebrate man's best friend on the regular, but think about making it an extra special day for your pup on Sunday. Aug. 26 is National Dog Day. That's the day animal advocate Colleen Paige has designated for honoring all those dogs who bring in the paper, and all those dogs who are neglected. Not to be confused with National Mutt Day (Dec. 2), National Puppy Day (March 23) or National Pet Day (April 11), each of the 19 national and international pet days founded by Paige are all designed with one thing in mind: to draw attention to the need for pet rescue. Paige, author, pet behaviorist and self-proclaimed "pet celebrity lifestyle expert" founded the Animal Miracle Foundation and Network (AMFN), a nonprofit Christian faith-based …
Maggie is extremely sweet, enjoys her chew toys and seems to like other dogs. Adopt her today at the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh!
This pretty 3-year-old girl is Maggie. Her owners surrendered Maggie to the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh after two years because she didn't quite feel comfortable with the small children in the home. Nevertheless, this pointer-mix is extremely sweet, enjoys her Kong chew toy very much and seems to like other dogs, too. Maggie was also crate trained and knows sit, stay, down and lay. However, she's not fond of felines, so a cat-free home would be ideal. She’s also is a fan of going outside when it rains. Based on her behavior in her previous home, Maggie should live in an adult only home or a home with older children. It does take her time to warm up to strangers, but loves people once she feels safe. We think she'll love curling up …

Bentley arrived at the shelter with badly matted fur. She was cleaned up, is velvety soft and needs a loving home.
This small, black kitty—just 1 year and 6 months old—is looking for a home. Bentley makes the Animal Rescue League staff giggle, and prefers to be told how velvety soft and warm she is. She came to the shelter with badly matted fur, so she was sedated and shaved so that her coat will grow back beautiful and shiny, and clean. Bentley is a medium-haired kitty with a beautiful plume tail. She is affectionate and playful, but just a little shy in the shelter when she meets new people. So if you visit Bentley, give her a little time to trust you and you will be rewarded. Any questions, please send an email to catladycam@gmail.com. _______________________ Plum-Oakmont Patch is on Facebook and on Twitter. Don't forget to sign up for our daily…

This pretty kitty needs a new home!
Those lovely eyes belong to Angel, a 7-year-old Domestic Shorthair/Mix. Angel, who is at the Animal Rescue League, loves to be petted, brushed and cuddled. She was taken to the animal shelter because she was having trouble getting along with her former family's dog. If you have no other pets in your home (she has never lived with other cats), could you provide a place for Angel to retire before kitten season arrives? If you have any questions, contact catladycam@gmail.com. _____________________ Plum-Oakmont Patch is on Facebook and on Twitter.
