Seneca Valley High School senior disappeared in 1981 after leaving work to buy cold medicine.
Michele Reidenbach smiled for the camera as she posed for her senior pictures on Sept. 22, 1981. A senior at Seneca Valley High School in Jackson Township, Butler County, she had saved up $100, tucked in a drawer at home, to pay for her class ring. The 16-year-old from Evans City, like other seniors, had the exciting, final year of high school ahead. After school that day, she went to her part-time job at Mel-Den TV and Appliance, a store at 240 South Main St. in Zelienople, where she addressed envelopes and wrote advertisements for the owners. At 4 p.m., she left her job to walk to a Rite-Aid pharmacy located a half block away to buy cold medicine. A clerk at the store confirmed that she purchased the medicine and left the store. The last…

In 1991, the 28 year old returned from a date, went back out and was never seen again.
Terry Slaugenhoupt, 28, came home from a date to the East Liberty apartment vicinity of the 1400 block of North St. Clair Street that she shared with a roommate. There are two versions of what happened next. One is that she got a phone call and told her roommate she was going out again. The other is that she told the roommate she was going out to make a phone call. No one knows who the call was to or from and where she was headed—and two decades ago, tracking calls wasn't as easy as it is today. That was the last time Terry was seen and she was never heard from again. She would be 50 years old today. At the time of her disappearance, on Jan. 6, 1991, she was 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighed between 105-120 pounds. She had long, curly …

The 8-year-old boy disappeared from near his McKees Rocks home in 1991.
Willie Majewski was only 8 years old about 4 p.m. on Nov. 9, 1991 as he gathered his fishing gear and walked toward Chartiers Creek, which feeds into the nearby Ohio River. He wasn't reported missing for several hours after he disappeared. His mother was out playing bingo and didn't realize he hadn't come home. Willie's fishing gear was found later behind the Eat'n Park restaurant—along the banks of the creek, about 100 yards from a camp where homeless people stayed. His equipment had not been disturbed and there were no signs of a struggle at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing Majewski in the McKees Rocks Plaza. One person saw him talking to a scruffy man in a store. Another said an unkempt man pulled him into a burnt-orange Nova. The …

The elderly woman found over a hillside in Avalon was never identified.
The woman survived about eight decades on this earth, but her death gave no dignity to those years. On June 19, 1997, the mummified body of a petite black woman with short, curly, gray-and-white hair—only 5 feet tall and weighing only 100 pounds—was found over a hillside behind the Ponderosa Restaurant at 920 Ohio River Blvd. (Route 65) in Avalon. The woman, who was found inside a blue sleeping bag, was wrapped in two black plastic trash bags—one tied over her head, one tied over her feet—then wrapped again in what authorities believe was a plastic mattress cover, according to the Pennsylvania Missing Persons website. Her head was lying on a pillow with a towel covering her face. Her body was covered with a green blanket. She was dressed …

The mother of two from Ross Township vanished last September.
To an outsider, Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 might have seemed like an average day in Jamie Nichole Peterson's life. Her children, a 9-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl, left for school that morning from their Ross Township home in the area of North Fremont Avenue, near Bellevue Borough. Jamie, 30, went to buy groceries at the Giant Eagle at 4110 Brighton Rd., and, according to some reports, also a Home Depot, then returned home. The last person to see Peterson was an ex-boyfriend who came over early that afternoon to pick up clothing he had left behind. Jamie had broken off the five-year relationship three weeks earlier, according to her father, Jim Peterson, a former state constable from Ross Township. Witnesses said she and the ex-boyfriend …

The 21-year-old from Penn Hills has been missing since March 22.
Sometimes you repeatedly cross paths with people, not knowing their names, but still exchanging a nod or pleasantries as you pass. For Nancy Monahan, who runs the Pennsylvania Missing Persons website, Dominick Brown-Hill was one of those people. She remembers saying "hello" to him on occasion as he walked near her home in Penn Hills. And then he vanished. "Boy, it just makes you think—a stranger you might see is suddenly gone," Monahan said. Brown-Hill was last seen Thursday, March 22, on Althea Drive in Penn Hills, not far from a home where he had been staying. At about 5 or 6 p.m. the next day, he called the home's owner—a friend's grandmother—to say he would be coming back that evening. But he never showed up. His mother, Lisa Zellars, …

The 19-year-old has been missing since saying she was headed to Florida with a boyfriend.
Alivia Christine Kail, a 19-year-old living in Mt. Washington, went to her brother's home in West Mifflin on March 5, 2011, to gather some clothes. Alivia told him she planned to move to Florida with her boyfriend, Alexander Lorenzi, of Pittsburgh's Esplen neighborhood. When her family was unable to contact her by phone for several days, they became concerned. Then Alivia's phone was shut off for non-payment. When Lorenzi reappeared in Pittsburgh without Alivia and gave conflicting accounts as to her whereabouts, the family's worry deepened. Lorenzi was arrested on March 30, 2011, for unrelated drug and gun charges. While searching Lorenzi's home and vehicle, police found three spent shell casings, a pink tote containing woman's clothing…
