Area Man's Artwork Featured at Phipps

Francis Cleetus' friends at the Hindu Jain Temple in Monroeville recommended his artwork. The ceiling murals will be on display for three years.

After many late nights and early mornings, the artwork of Upper St. Clair's Francis Cleetus is on display at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. Three 5-by-5-foot ceiling murals are hanging in the special events hall for the brand new exhibit—Tropical Forest India. Cleetus also made the exhibit's spice and tea market signs. "It's going to be up for three years. A lot of eyes are going to see his work—thousands. So yes, I'd say it's an honor," said Jordyn Melino, exhibit coordinator. Cleetus came highly recommended by his friends at the Hindu Jain Temple in Monroeville. "He brought some of his paintings and we met in the space. We liked his work so we went for it," Melino said. Phipps Winter Exhibit is a Warm Escape

The theme of this year's Winter Flower Show is "The Nutcracker."

Escape the dreary, cold weather by checking out the Winter Flower Show at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. "It's a nice injection of color in the winter month," said Liz Fetchin, Phipps' spokesperson. Every year Phipps features a Winter Flower exhibit, filled with hundreds of poinsettias, amaryllis and fresh-cut evergreens adorned with LED lights. "It is very nostalgic for a lot of people in Pittsburgh," Fetchin said. "We have patrons who have been coming since they were little, and now they are bringing their grandchildren." Fetchin encourages patrons to make sure they check out the Winter Flower Show this year because of its "magical" theme. "Each year we try to give it that extra something special, and this year it's 'The Nutcracker,'" …
