Plum Emergency Medical Services has started collecting subscriptions for 2013. This year, Plum EMS has filmed a video with testimonials from borough residents who have used the non-profit organization's services as part of its "It Can Happen to You" campaign. (The video has been attached to the media section of this article). Bob Moran, deputy director of Plum EMS, said the service is receiving positive feedback from people who have watched the video. Plum EMS responded to 2,750 calls for help in 2012. Moran said about 12,000 subscriptions have been mailed to residents. Subscriptions cost $40 for residences and businesses in the borough. The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation will recognize rescuers from Plum EMS, the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department and the Forbes Response Unit for saving the life of a man on Christmas Day. Roland (Mike) Dulaney, 62, suffered sudden cardiac arrest on Christmas night and was resuscitated thanks to the efforts of volunteer firefighter/EMT Nick Gerstel and his colleagues. The ceremony will take place at the Rosedale VFD 222—located along Verona Road in Penn Hills—on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. A free CPR-AED class, provided by EmergiLearn Solutions and Start-the-Heart, will follow. The Plum Chamber of Commerce's Halloween party raised thousands of dollars for local emergency organizations.
Plum emergency organizations definitely were in for some treats this Halloween. On Oct. 26, the Plum Chamber of Commerce's "After Hours" Halloween party event raised $6,000 for the Plum Borough Emergency Medical Services and the four fire departments—Holiday Park, Unity, Renton and Logan's Ferry Heights. Chamber officials said they continue to receive donations. Photos from the event are included in the article's gallery. Mayor Richard Hrivnak has proclaimed this week as Plum EMS week to recognize its 20 years of service to the community. Bob Moran, deputy EMS director, shares a little about the past, present, and future of the service.
Plum’s Emergency Medical Services celebrates two decades of service to the borough this year and Bob Moran is proud of how far it has come. “It’s a respected service in the community and a respected service in the hospitals,” Moran, the EMS deputy director said. This week has been designated as Plum EMS week by borough Mayor Richard Hrivnak. “I’m extremely proud of the job they’ve done over the past 20 years,” he said. “They’ve been extremely successful and provided a great service to our residents." The service officially turned 20 this past March.
