President's Day: What's Open, Closed in Plum-Oakmont Area

Today, Feb. 18, is President's Day!

Several local offices and schools are closed today, Feb. 18, in observance of President's Day. The Plum, Oakmont and Verona borough offices are closed, as are the post offices in all three communities. District court offices—Linda Zucco's office in Plum and Leonard Hromyak's office in Penn Hills—and most banks also are closed. However, trash and recyclables will be picked up so don't forget to put the garbage out. Plum School District students are off of school. However, Riverview students are in class making up an October cancellation due to Hurricane Sandy. All Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver license and photo centers, including the location on Greensburg Road in Plum/New Kensington, will be closed. Customers still can …

Veterans to Tell Stories at Plum Library

This event will be held on President's Day, Feb. 18.

Share a Pair of Stories and the Plum Borough Community Library are teaming up to host an event to honor veterans. On President's Day, Monday, Feb. 18, veterans will be telling stories to library visitors from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The community, and particularly school children, are encouraged to attend.  Children are urged to bring thank you notes or cards which will be displayed at the library, shared with the veteran storytellers or donated to an area VA hospital. Young children can download a printable thank you card to color here.  Many veterans already have agreed to speak, and any who attends and would like to share a story will be welcome to do so.
