Motorists traveling along Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont next week should be aware of some restrictions. Beginning on Monday, the curb replacement on the business side of the 200 and 700 blocks—from College to California avenues—of the road will occur. There will be lane restrictions. The work resumed Thursday at 9 p.m.
Work to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) resumed Thursday night. As a courtesy to motorists and travelers, traffic restrictions related to the rehabilitation project were postponed over the holiday season. Restriections will continue to occur on the following schedule: Westbound (inbound) single lane traffic: Eastbound (outbound) single lane traffic: No westbound full closures are scheduled at this time. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews will be working in Plum and on surrounding highways this week, Dec. 10 t0 14. Here's a look at what they'll be doing: Plum Borough Patching will occur on Hulton Road in Plum/Penn Hills from Milltown Road to Hulton Road this week. Crews also will be performing pipe and inlet cleaning on Sardis Road in Plum from the Westmoreland County line to Drennan Road. Highland Park and Tarentum bridges Overhead sign safety inspections on the Highland Park Bridge (Route 1005) in Pittsburgh and Tarentum Bridge (Route 366) in Tarentum will occur on Monday, Dec. 10, weather permitting. Here's a roundup of items discussed by council at Monday’s meeting: Special Meeting about 2013 Budget to Take Place Borough Manager Lisa Cooper Jensen spoke to council about the 2013 budget she distributed earlier saying creating the budget was difficult since she was unsure of how much money the borough would actually collect from taxes due to continuing reassessments. “We have to use last year’s numbers,” Jensen said. “That’s all we can do right now.” The draft outlines funds for the general fund and sewer fund, and council President Tim Milberger said council needs time to review it and for discussion. This is the second closure, and motorists should expect significant delays.
You might want to avoid Route 28 inbound this weekend. The highway will be closed at the Millvale Interchange (Exit 3) in Millvale this weekend, Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, weather permitting. The closure will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be detoured using the southbound on-off ramps at the interchange. Police will assist with traffic control to keep the detour routes moving. Crews will continue work to replace expansion dams, repair and mill and resurface the bridges that carry southbound Route 28 over the Millvale interchange. Work to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will begin at 9 p.m. nightly from now on. The previous schedule had work and single lane restrictions beginning at 10 p.m. Overnight restrictions will occur according to the following schedule through July 13. No work or restrictions will occur July 2-4. The extra hour is needed to allow the contractor to maximize work hours in preparation for upcoming weekend closures. PennDOT also reminds motorists the first of eight full westbound weekend closures requiring detours will occur the weekend of July 27 to 30. A heads up if you're traveling on the road.
A road crew is improving New Texas Road near Lindsey Lane in Plum on Thursday morning. Workers were using oil and dumping chips on the road surface. Traffic flow was reduced to one alternating lane and caused just a slight delay for drivers. Here's a roundup of items discussed at the May 14 Oakmont Council meeting: Council Does Not Honor Request for Release from Completion Bond After an inspection by Bill Wenger, an engineer with Senate Engineering, the engineering company assisting the borough with the development, it was found that a second topcoat on the roads in the Edgewater development is not complete, according to Wenger. Because of this, council could not release the requested full amount of a $322,110.25 completion bond held by Kacin Companies. In an agreement with the borough in 2009, the company obtained this bond to cover any unforeseen expenses that the borough may incur as a result of the Edgewater development, such as the company not being able to complete the …

The outbound (eastbound) Parkway East will be reduced to single lane in Monroeville Wednesday through Friday, May 2 to 4, weather permitting. Crews will be milling and paving the approaches to the new bridge that carries the outbound Parkway East over Business Route 22 between the Monroeville off-ramp (Exit 84A) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Exit 85). Restrictions will occur from 9 p.m. on Wednesday through 2 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 2 p.m. on Friday.
