Steelers Update Wilson's Condition, Determination of Fire's Cause On the Way

Steelers officials say running backs Coach Kirby Wilson remains in critical condition after being burned on more than 45 percent of his body in a fire earlier this month at his home.

The Steelers organization on Tuesday released an update on running backs Coach Kirby Wilson’s condition on behalf of the coach's family. The 50-year-old was severely burned Jan. 6 when an early-morning fire broke out in his townhouse on Jameson Way in Seven Fields. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, where he remains in critical condition in the hospital's Trauma Burn Center. "In addition to burns sustained over 45 percent of his body, he has suffered a smoke inhalation injury and will require multiple operative procedures in the future," the Steelers statement said.   An answer to what caused the fire at Wilson’s home also may soon be on the way. UPDATE: Neighbors Help Roust Steelers Coach from Burning Seven Fields Home

Running backs coach Kirby Wilson is being treated for serious burns at UPMC Mercy after fire at his home near Cranberry.

Kirby Wilson, the running backs coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is being treated today for injuries after a fire early this morning swept through his townhouse in Seven Fields. Cranberry Township police and firefighters from Adams Township, Cranberry Township, Callery, Harmony, Zelienople and South Butler were dispatched to the blaze at 2:42 a.m. in the Estates of Seven Fields, a townhouse community where Wilson, 49, lives at 141 Jameson Way. Neighbors said smoke was pouring out of the house, and a maintenance man for the complex said a stove may have caught fire in the kitchen. Steelers Coach Reportedly 'Badly Burned' in House Fire

WPXI-TV is reporting Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Friday morning.

WPXI-TV is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson was "badly burned" in a house fire in Seven Fields, Butler County early Friday morning. He was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital. It was unclear which facility is caring for the coach—Mercy Hospital, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and UPMC-Presbyterian did not list him as a patient. There is no word on his condition. The Steelers are preparing for their playoff game Sunday afternoon against the Denver Broncos.
