Business Spotlight: Oaks Theater

This week's local business spotlight is the Oaks Theater, located on Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont. Since it opened in 1938, the Oaks Theater has been a staple of the community's business district. The theater shows a unique mix of new releases, foreign films and cult classics, and hosts a number of events that cater to community members. Small Business Weekend Begins Friday in Oakmont

Several Oakmont businesses will be offering special deals this weekend!

As you think about holiday shopping this year, why not take a stroll down Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont? The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce and several Oakmont businesses are participating in Small Business Weekend—running Friday, Nov. 23, to Sunday, Nov. 25—in an effort to encourage the community to shop locally. Participating stores will be offering special promotions and services for many of your gift-giving needs. Small Business Owners Invited to Attend Small Business Works Seminar Monday

The event aims to empower and educate small business owners.

Small business owners all over the county—including those in Plum, Oakmont and Verona—are invited to attend the second-annual Small Business Works seminar on Monday, May 21. The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the Kingsley Association located at 6435 Frankstown Ave. in East Liberty. Pittsburgh Man Films Doritos Super Bowl Commercial

Ryan Quinn hopes his "superb owl" commercial will be chosen by Doritos to air during the big game.

What began as a joke with one fan’s Super Bowl party invitation has turned into a television commercial that might be used by Doritos. Ryan Quinn, a 2006 Chartiers Valley graduate, wrote and directed a 30-second video that he hopes will be chosen by Doritos as a Super Bowl ad. 'A Christmas Story's' Ian Petrella Comes to Hollywood Theater

The actor who played 'Randy Parker' gives viewers a play-by-play of a Christmas classic.

Black Friday shoppers descended on malls everywhere yesterday, but in Dormont, a different venue was getting all the attention. The Hollywood Theater hosted Ian Petrella, who played “Randy Parker” in the classic Christmas film “A Christmas Story.” Petrella said he enjoys touring smaller towns, and has had the best audience responses in the midwest and eastern parts of the country because those towns seem similar to the movie setting. It’s always fun to meet the people who helped make the film such a success, he said. “It’s interesting because we went, we made (the movie), and kind of nothing came of it after that,” Petrella said. “It’s kind of like summer camp, the way I remember it. Small Business Weekend in Oakmont Starts on Black Friday

Oakmont businesses will be holding sales and offering deals Friday through Sunday.

Anyone who wants to shop locally for the holidays has a lot of options in the Oakmont business district. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Small Business Weekend, and encouraging people to shop at local stores and restaurants. The events brochure highlights free parking, fewer crowds and more personalized attention for shoppers because businesses are owned by individuals. Stores and restaurants each will be offering special sales and deals for customers. Store hours in Oakmont are Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Participating stores are:
