Superintendents Put In the Long Shift For Snow Days
While students are sound asleep, Plum and Riverview superintendents are diligently watching the weather to make sure students have a safe ride to school in the morning.
On a snowy night, most people are snuggled up in their houses, listening to the sound of snowflakes against the windows from their beds — but not superintendents. They're up late checking and rechecking weather conditions to make sure students and faculty stay safe in the morning. Riverview Superintendent Dr. Charles Erdeljac takes a cue from meteorologists by dedicating himself to checking the weather hourly all night. He considers temperature, wind chill, snow accumulation, ice conditions and wind velocity when he makes a decision at 5 a.m., he said.
