A winter storm warning has been cancelled.
Locals woke up to a late blast of spring snow this morning. The most intense snow accumulations—about 3 to 5 inches total—are expected this morning, before diminishing. The National Weather Service in Moon Township has cancelled a winter storm warning, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties. A winter weather advisory means that snow will cause travel difficulties so use caution while driving. After a heavy overnight snowfall, Plum and Riverview school districts have issued a two-hour delay for Monday, March 25. Plum's previously scheduled early dismissal will remain in effect. The National Weather Service has cancelled the winter storm warning. The snow is expected to begin Sunday night.
Though it's officially spring, it seems as though the Plum-Oakmont area will experience some more winter weather. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire Pittsburgh region, including Plum, Oakmont and Verona. The warning is in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday. Snow is expected to be most intense from midnight Sunday through the pre-dawn hours of Monday, accumulating 4 to 7 inches before ending by Monday afternoon. Heavy snow could make traveling hazardous. A winter storm that could bring several inches of snow is expected to hit the Pittsburgh area Tuesday night. The National Weather Service issued the advisory that runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall in the Laurel Highlands of Fayette, Westmoreland and Somerset counties. However, the Plum-Oakmont area and other areas south and east of the city could get 4-to-6 inches. Neighborhoods west of Pittsburgh are expected to get 2-to-4 inches of accumulation. National Weather Service forecasts hazardous travel conditions.
Two Clipper-type systems will mean lots of snow to western Pennsylvania this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory for snow is in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. The weather service forecasts snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches; those totals could go as high as 6 to 10 inches in the higher ridge elevations. The snow will begin mid-morning Saturday and end Sunday evening, with the heaviest snow coming Saturday afternoon into midday Sunday, NWS states on its website. According to The Weather Channel, 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected in Plum, Oakmont and Verona during the day Saturday. An additional 1 to 2 inches could fall in the evening.
