The Riverview School District Music Department's Third-Annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held this weekend. The dinner is planned for Sunday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riverview High School cafeteria. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens. There also will be a Chinese Auction with a variety of donated items from families of Riverview as well as merchants from Oakmont and surrounding communities. The Plum Borough Education Association is hosting a charity “Spaghetti Dinner and Raffle” to benefit the family of a Plum woman battling leukemia. The dinner, which will be held Feb. 2 at the Plum Senior Center, will raise funds to support Lorri Nixon and her family. Nixon and her husband, Tom, have a son, a daughter at Plum High School and another daughter at Adlai Stevenson. The dinner will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $7 and $5 for senior citizens. Children 4 and younger eat for free. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, bread, salad, dessert and drinks. Takeout is available. The Brentwood Presbyterian Church will serve as the latest host of community support in light of the recent tragedy that struck the Derkosh family of Whitehall Borough. On Sunday, Nov. 25, the church—found at 3725 Brownsville Rd. in Brentwood Borough (15227)—will welcome the public for a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 2 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from the dinner as well as all monetary donations will go directly to the family of 2-year-old Maddox Derkosh, who died on Nov. 4. Maddox was visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo with his mother that day when he fell from the top of a platform railing to the ground inside of the pit area of an African painted dogs exhibit. Perfect Fit Canines—founded by Jim and Susan Wagner of Churchill—provides service dogs specially trained to perfectly fit an individual's needs. The Forsyth family of Wexford has created the Sean & Sophia Foundation for 7-year-old Sean, who has Asperger's Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. Sean and his family are in the process of paying for training expenses for service dog Sophia via Perfect Fit Canines. Dina D'Ascenzo, a 1988 Plum High School graduate, has been diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia. A spaghetti dinner will be held to raise money to help pay for D'Ascenzo's medical expenses.
