Eddie Miller of Plum used his birthday money and gift cards to buy video games for children in the hospital.
Children receiving care at Allegheny General Hospital can enjoy video games thanks to a Plum boy. Last month, Plum resident Eddie Miller, a sixth-grader at St. John the Baptist School, delivered new Xbox games to the pediatric ward at the hospital. Eddie and his parents, Edward and Christine, purchased the games with money and gift cards he received for his 11th birthday. Edward Miller said he and his wife suggested to Eddie that he think of children in need as his birthday approached. Eddie, who loves playing video games in his spare time, chose to support a program called Make Room 4 Kids, an initiative of the Austin's Playroom Project and Mario Lemieux Foundation supported by Virginia Montanez and local Microsoft employees. St. John the Baptist School in Plum will hold an Open House on Sunday, Jan. 29, from noon to 2 p.m. for all families interested in learning about the school. The school is for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. New student registrations also will be taken for the 2012-2013 school year. Class size is limited so people are asked to register early. As class rosters fill up, waiting lists will be established. Anyone interested can stop by to tour the school, meet the teachers and ask current parents any questions they have. St. John the Baptist School in Plum will be holding a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 3, in the school cafeteria. Santa will be meeting with children from from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Breakfast includes pancakes and sausage. The cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children. Meet Santa and enjoy holiday story-telling. Crafts will be available for a small additional charge. Reservations are requested but not required.
