The owner of the Sarris Candies said he expects the store to be open within the month—or 'ASAP.'
Oversized stuffed animals wearing festive Valentine's Day bows sat atop shelves of boxed chocolates at Sarris Candies. A counter nearby is lined with chocolate bars. Stacks of chocolate-covered pretzels are arranged in another corner of the Canonsburg retail hot spot. But owner Bill Sarris held his hand out and beckoned to the whole lot of it, saying, "All of this—it has to go." And that's what workers were doing Monday at the store: Cleaning chandeliers and cleaning up after a fire erupted in the parlour portion of the building on Friday—and throwing away pounds and pounds of chocolate and other merchandise. Using only a bag of conversation hearts, a glass votive and hot glue, parents and their children (or anyone for that matter) can create a simple but cute craft project for Valentine’s Day. This candy-decorated votive can be made for grandparents, teachers, babysitters or that special someone. Materials: 1 bag of conversation hearts 1 glass votive Hot glue gun and glue sticks Steps: If your loved one isn’t a fan of candles, you can always replace the votive with a plain candy dish or a glass vase and decorate the outside the same way.

Restaurants in Oakmont and Plum have prepared special menus and events for Valentine’s Day weekend.
Even though Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday this year, local couples will have plenty of options for romantic dining over the weekend. “We’ve created a weekly special menu for Valentine’s day,” said Grainne Trainor owner of The Mighty Oak Barrel Restaurant. The specials will be available Tuesday through Saturday night. Restaurants are ending specials on Saturday, Feb 13 to cater to those hoping to celebrate early. The cozy, intimate style of The Mighty Oak Restaurant could make it the right place for couples, Trainor said. “The atmosphere is quite conducive to romantic dinners,” she said.
