Verona Revitalization—New Trees, More Grant Money

New trees will be planted in the business district, and the borough might have more grant money available for revitalization.

Work toward Verona's business district revitalization is under way, and it seems as though the borough might have more money to spend on the project. The improvement plan for the borough's streetscape project includes 46 lights and landscaping along Allegheny River Boulevard; Center, South and East Railroad avenues; and James Street. Earlier this week, Mike Vento, the architecture and design chair for the Verona Business District Advisory Committee, said it looks as though the borough will receive a $150,000 county grant with a 15 percent match. The borough already has received a $143,000 grant through the county's Community Development Block Grant program. Verona Borough must contribute an extra $21,485 in cash or in-kind services. Vento …

Planning Continues for Verona Streetscape Project

Verona's revitalization project is coming along, and lights could be installed between the summer and the fall.

Work to install new lights around Verona Borough could begin sometime this year—possibly in the summer or the fall months. Members of the Verona Business District Advisory Committee—along with the Allegheny Valley North Council of Governments—have been working on plans to revitalize Verona's business district for several years, and now that the design work is complete, they're ready to start preparing bid documents for potential contractors. The borough already has received a $143,000 grant through the county's Community Development Block Grant program. Verona Borough must contribute an extra $21,485 in cash or in-kind services. Mike Vento, the architecture and design chair for the VBDAC, said the committee also is waiting to hear if it …

Verona Receives Grant for Boulevard Streetscape Project

The borough received a $143,000 grant via the county Community Development Block Grant grant program.

Verona Borough has been approved for a large county grant to help revitalize the borough's business district. Last week, Mike Vento, the architecture and design chair for the Verona Business District Advisory Committee, announced the borough had received a $143,243 grant through the county Community Development Block Grant grant program. The committee applied for the grant last July. In November, officials hired architect Richard P. Rauso to design an improvement plan for the borough's streetscape project. The borough already had received a $40,000 county grant to go toward the architecture and design of the project. Vento said the borough would need to contribute $21,485 to receive the $143,000 grant. "The streetscape is moving forward," …

Architect Chosen for Verona Streetscape Project

The Verona Business District Advisory Committee works to make progress on the first phase of a revitalization project on Allegheny River Boulevard.

Verona Borough officials are making progress on a plan that will help revitalize the borough's business district. At Tuesday's borough council meeting, officials approved the recommendation of the Verona Business District Advisory Committee to hire architect Richard P. Rauso to design an improvement plan for the borough's streetscape project. The borough received a $40,000 county grant to go toward the architecture and design of the project, so the Allegheny Valley North Council of Governments will officially hire Rauso. Michael Vento, the architecture and design chair for the Verona Business District Advisory Committee, said the borough won't be responsible for any design costs. The project includes infrastructure improvements—such as …
