Plum, Riverview School Boards: Who Are You Voting for, and Why?

Tell us which candidates you're backing in the May 21 primary.

There are four four-year terms up for grabs on both the Plum Borough and Riverview school boards this year. And with the May 21 primary election about a week away, we want to know: Who are you voting for? And why? Tell your neighbors in the comments section below who the most qualified people are. The following candidates will appear on the ballot: Plum Borough School Board All candidates have cross-filed on the Republican and Democratic tickets. They are Dawn Lynn Check, Jim Rogers, Michelle Stepnick and incumbents Salvatore Collella, Kevin Dowdell and Andrew Drake. Penguin Pride at Plum: Vote For Your Favorite Lipdub

High school students have been showing their love for the Pittsburgh Penguins since 2010.

In honor of the possible start to the Pittsburgh Penguins' season next weekend, WTAE is holding a poll featuring some of the hockey team's devoted fans—Plum High School students. The Pittsburgh TV station is asking readers on its website to vote for their favorite Plum High School Penguins lipdub. A lipdub is a one-take video that shows students supporting the Pens in the hallways, classrooms and throughout the school. Students have filmed videos and posted them to YouTube since 2010. Update: Election 2012 Turnout Brisk in Allegheny County, Western PA

Allegheny County Common Pleas Court extends deadline for absentee ballots to be submitted from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. after elections officials receive more requests than expected.

Over and over, visitors to the Allegheny County Election Division heard the same refrain Tuesday morning: “Elections division, how may I help you?” "Elections division, please hold." From their headquarters Downtown, that constant jangle was the only way elections division workers could gauge that Tuesday was shaping up to be a busy Election Day around Allegheny County, Division Manager Mark Wolosik said. “You hear the phones ringing off the hook,” he said. The most-frequent questions? Most callers asked to confirm if they were registered to vote or where their polling places were located, he said. When is the Deadline to Apply for an Absentee Ballot in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvanians who intend to vote in the upcoming general election by filing absentee ballots must apply by Oct. 30.

Pennsylvania voters who intend to cast absentee ballots in the upcoming general election Nov. 6 must apply to obtain those ballots before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30. Absentee ballots are available to registered voters who will be away from their community or cannot vote due to illness or physical disability. In Allegheny County, voters may obtain absentee ballots by visiting or contacting the county elections division, 601 County Office Building, 542 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219. Eligible voters may also obtain an application by visiting www.votespa.com or calling the elections divions at 412-350-4520.
