Several items were discussed at the Jan. 14 Oakmont Council voting meeting. Here's a roundup: Park Hours The Riverside Park operating hours will change. Council agreed to change the park hours to the following: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. during standard time and 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. during Daylight Savings. The park used to be open from dawn until dusk, but rec board members have said more people are using the newly installed track during the early morning and late night hours. New Park Name The new park to be located along Dark Hollow Road has been named. Officials agreed to name the park Creekside Park—it is located near Plum Creek, and it ties in with Riverside Park. Verona Council discussed several topics at its Sept. 25 workshop meeting. Here's a roundup: Police Officers Two part-time police officers have been hired. The officers, Dennis Rupert and John Vojitko, will join the Verona Police Department. Councilman Pat McCarthy said both were interviewed and had meetings with police Chief Ron McLemore. McCarthy said Vojitko is currently an officer at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg and Rupert is with the PA National Guard. Grant The borough received a $2,500 grant from the Local Government Academy to help attract new businesses. Here's a list of items discussed by council on Monday: Trestle Road Some changes are coming to Trestle Road in order to slow down drivers. Changes include preventing drivers from making turns on the road from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and utilizing speed-monitoring equipment the police already owns. Council approved a three-year contract extension, effective Jan. 1, 2013, with the union that represents the borough’s clerical staff. Here is a roundup of items discussed at the regular meeting of the Oakmont Borough Council on Monday, Aug. 13: Street Department Borough Manager Lisa Jensen announced that the recently purchased 2013 International Truck was delivered to the street department on Aug. 10. The borough paid $102,000 for the vehicle. Jensen also announced that the street sweeper, which recently caught fire during operation, has been non-operable for the past two weeks. Officials are working on obtaining a loaner street sweeper to continue upkeep on the borough’s streets. Here's a roundup of items discussed at the Verona Council June 12 voting meeting: Ambulance Service Verona officials continue to discuss the ambulance service in the borough. Last week, Council members Sandra Drabicki-Bell and Rhoda Gemellas-Worf supported a motion to switch the borough ambulance service to Lower Valley Emergency Medical Services, which has one station in nearby Oakmont and another in Harmar. Officials have been debating about the efficiency of the current service provider, Guardian Angel Ambulance, after complaints of slow response time. Here's a roundup of items discussed: Ice Rink A portable rink has been delivered to Riverside Park. The rink was delivered in two pieces, and while the crew did struggle with the weight of the rink pallets, it has been temporarily placed at the bleachers. Cameras are directed at the rink parts and an extra police patrolman will monitor the park until the rink can be securely stationed in the park. Track The Riverside Park running track is set to be repaved this week. The park project should be completed by next spring, borough manager Bruce Jamison said. There still is a $78,000 balance for the park redevelopment. Jamison said there was no need to panic because some of the budgeted projects will not be completed this year. Recreational …
